  • posted a message on I'm tired of chasing players, not developing who I have, and a system that basically sucks

The problem is that as you get higher in OVR, training becomes exponentially more expensive.  Training an 87 from level 1 to 2 costs less than 50,000 tp.  Training a 97 from level 1 to 2 costs 750,000 tp.

As with you I realised that I had sufficiently good players but they were not trained up to max (nor close to it).  But when I began focusing on training it became clear that it too was an expensive proposition, and has no "pay off" as you will never be able to sell that player again.

And with prices high in the auction house, it is difficult to get cards for training at a reasonable price.  If prices begin to drop in the future as others have predicted, I will use that opportunity to max out my team.   I also may pick up a few new ones as well.

That is a rare card, and it is expensive (+4M coins)

I had that card briefly, having pulled it during the promo.

I tried him out in a few games, and the card was solid.  Got rebounds on both offense and defense.  But I already had UL Gasol at 97 and had other more pressing needs at other positions, so I sold McHale for 10.6M.  It would be hard to say that the McHale card (untrained) was better than UL Gasol at level 5.

I doubt McHale would make a huge improvement over Duncan at 100.

I've got enough packs to pull two UL cards, but I have no idea what I might pull and I would prefer to save the packs if I could use them for better cards later.

    +1 to trapstarisu.

For SG, if you just want a guy who can nail the outside shot, Allen is your guy.  If you want a defensive force and are willing to sacrifice some offense for some stiff defense, look to Starks.

Depends on what you are looking for.  If you want an offensive force, go with Allen.  If you want really good defense and are willing to give up some offense, go with Starks.

I have trained up UL Nash to level 5.  I find he plays much better than untrained.  Of course I'm now committed to using him until he can be replaced with a better option (Simmons).

To quickly increase your OVR, easiest would be to replace the bench with higher OVR players.  Of course you would lose the boosts you are getting from the NY cards.  The 91 OVR NY cards are much more expensive, but give better boosts.  So you have to decide which works better for you, and your budget for upgrading.

How does De'Aaron Fox work for you as PG?

Did you guys train him yet? I’ve had mine for just over a week and haven’t pulled the trigger...yet.

Maxed him out right after I bought him, never looked back, but honestly don't bother training if you don't shoot with him (which you shouldn't), just in case you decide you would rather sell him.
At this point, I'm fine with his shooting as I think I know how to use him (been playing with the Classic version much longer). The one thing I'm wondering is if his AI significantly improves with training?  Lately, when I face a 96 version of him it seems his AI has reached another level! Not sure if this is because I'm guarding him with my BB Simmons now or what but based on some of my SD AI scores, it doesn't seem like he's as dominant against others as he is against me!  He's still better than any other player I've used at PG but when my AI is scoreless or only 2 pts it makes me wonder?!

And I wonder if this isn't consistent as far as all players.  To a greater or lesser extent.
It is pretty frustrating when my team scores 2 or less points against an opponent when I have Royalty LBJ (where's the clutch?), and three other guys with 95+ 3 point rating.  Good going guys.  Did anyone even try to get a rebound?

There is some speculation about EA purposefully throwing in some lag to ensure whatever results the computer wants to achieve.  In other words, me losing.

The lag always seems to occur when I'm waiting for the shooting symbol to reach the green, usually resulting in me firing the shot well in advance of the optimum +20, and thus bricking the shot.

Now he is harder to search for since EA release the 91 ROTY card for him.

I primarily rely on my PF and C for rebounding as well.  I rarely shoot threes with the PF, unless he is standing there wide open.  Fortunately, my Gasol has 92+5 three point rating, so if he is open and I pass it to him (and get at least +9%), he usually sinks the three point shot.

But I've noticed that OVR is the biggest factor determining how well my team rebounds the ball.  Against lower OVR teams Gasol and Howard are beasts.  Against teams with OVR above mine, Gasol and Howard play timid and let their guys push them out of the way to get the ball.

Or my favourite, Howard boxing out their guy 15 feet from the rim and the ball goes directly to their PF standing directly under the rim for the easy put back and no one on my team is anywhere near the rim.  Thanks EA.

Considering between EG and Beal. I've played enough against Beal to know that his AI is very good and he plays tough.

EG is a much cheaper option (but 4 OVR less).  I wonder if EG would play significantly better trained up.

I think the older ULs (Gasol, Howard, etc.) play really well but only if you have trained them up to max or close to it.  I have Gasol at level 5 and he is really really good for me.  But Howard at level 4 is starting to get pushed around by the higher OVR centers now.  If you wanted a PF to play well right away, you would be better off with Bosh than Gasol.  I'm not sure about Griffin, haven't faced him enough.

Legends was a great promotional event, and many of the ULs were great cards.

Probably because it was fairly easy to get ULs just by grinding and not spending any real money is why EA did away with it.

EA's way of getting people to spend money on the game to get the higher OVR players to facilitate the rise to the top.
